The union representing hospital pharmacists says that further reductions in pharmacy services may occur if staffing levels continue to drop.
The public sector professionals fill all prescriptions in a hospital setting.
The President of the Association of Allied Health Professionals, Gord Piercey says hospital pharmacists in Newfoundland and Labrador are the lowest paid in Atlantic Canada, and that makes efforts to fill staff vacancies more challenging. “Your services are going to have to be looked at and there’s already been reductions in service. And I don’t know what the next level of reduction will be it’s going to be detrimental to the residents of the province and the residents of this province deserve better,” he told reporters.
