RCMP say they “welcome and respect” the guilty verdict in the Dean Penney murder trial.
After several days of deliberations, the jury came back with their decision Sunday morning in Corner Brook.
Penney, who is now 53, was accused of killing his estranged wife Jennifer Hillier-Penney in 2016. Her body has never been found.
Inspector Adam Palmer shares his message for Hillier-Penney’s daughter and the rest of her family.
“I just hope that today helps give (Hillier’s family) some peace, and that they’re able to move forward with the next stages in their life.”
Palmer states that he “can’t say enough” about the dedication of the RCMP officers involved in the case.
“From day one they wanted to find the truth, and they wanted to find Jennifer and (figure out) what happened to her. There were some dark days, there were some good days, such as today. But ultimately, they continued to move forward…I’d just like to highlight that, that can’t be done without the support of friends, families and neighbours who helped support the officers so that they can respond to these types of calls and investigate them”
He says while he can’t put an exact dollar figure on it, the investigation, which included undercover operations, is one of the most expensive ever done in the province.
