The Premier’s Office says it’s looking forward to working with the other Atlantic provinces on economic growth in the region, but won’t say specifically whether it supports the concept of the four provinces forming a single economic unit.
That was the key recommendation of an Atlantic Economic Panel report released last week. The report suggested that forming a single Atlantic Canadian economy while maintaining separate provincial governments would help the region compete globally.
The Premier’s Office says Newfoundland and Labrador works with all Atlantic provinces on economic opportunities – especially through the Council of Atlantic Premiers.
There will always be unique regional differences in economic opportunities based on resources and assets according to the Premier’s Office, and government is reviewing the report’s observations.
