NAPE is pleading with the provincial government to talk to frontline workers in seeking out proactive solutions to shortcomings in the health care system.
Union President Jerry Earle was responding to what he calls the rosy picture government is painting after one year in power, saying the decision-makers in Confederation Building need a “reality check.”
Earle told VOCM Open Line with Brian Callahan that many sectors in health care remain short staffed – struggling to meet the needs of patients.
He cites the urgent care clinic in the city’s west end as an example.
“I think Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are actually paying $100,000 a month…for an empty building on the corner of Blackmarsh Road that should have been open six or nine months ago. They announced a while ago, they made it sound really good, they opened up lab services there. Guess how many people Brian? One. One person.”
