The RNU will be holding another vote for its union executive after information was brought forward to its membership about problems identified in the last union executive election.
Stephanie Winsor was elected as the new president of the RNU in July, while Kimberly Parsons was elected vice-president and Tony Moores the new secretary-treasurer.
The union, which is holding its biennial convention in Corner Brook this week, says new information came to light showing that a record number of people voted who were not eligible to vote, or who were eligible but didn’t get a chance to vote.
The RNU says that’s because membership records were not accurately transferred during the 2023 amalgamation of four separate health authorities into one.
The union says it dug into the information and was able to confirm the problem.
A motion was brought forward at the convention to conduct a re-vote, which was accepted by an overwhelming majority.
A new election for the union executive will be held at the end of November.
