Residents in the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay came together yesterday to thank the community for support during wildfires throughout the summer.
Premier Andrew Furey was on hand for Happy Valley Day, where he thanked the residents, noting that many people were able to find shelter from the fires thanks to those in the community.
“Three significant challenges this summer. Most communities don’t have to deal with one,” told Furey.
“You were here to help neighbours, family and friends, and, I can tell you, that really struck a cord with everyone across the province.”
Lake Melville MHA Perry Trimper says his mind took him back to the welcoming smiles of the people when they took in displaced residents.
In addition to taking in evacuated families, the town also had a significant fire at its airport in April.
