Despite reassurances from Central Dairies, social media posts suggest issues surrounding black residue persist after the corrected measures.
In recent weeks, images showing a black residue inside 2-litre cartons of Central Dairies 2 per cent milk started circulating on social media.
The company repeatedly reassured the public, arguing there were no food-safety concerns with the black residue.
“Our corrective and preventative measures addressing premature spoilage have been successful as demonstrated by a significant reduction in consumer complaints in the past few days,” read a statement from the parent company Agropur on Friday.
“As the situation evolved, additional preventative measures were added and this includes products that carry expiry dates on and after October 1, 2024.”
But in recent days, pictures have once again emerged outlining the issue is still prominent amongst the 2 percent milk.

Earlier this month, Central Dairies and S’milk 2 per cent milk products with expiry dates between September 20th and September 30th were recalled due to concerns.
While the company says they’re “on track“ to returning to normal, Agropur noted they’ve taken additional measures to prevent the residue, including holding milk for three days and increased cleaning measures.
