Police have executed a warrant for DNA from a man charged with impaired driving following a fatal hit-and-run in St. John’s last Regatta Day.
And the lawyer for 37-year-old Mark Duke of Fox Harbour says he’s not comfortable entered pleas until those DNA results come back.
Duke is accused of knocking down a pedestrian at the intersection of Hamel Street and Freshwater Road at around 10 a.m. on Aug. 7th of last year.
The victim, a 61-year-old man, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries but was pronounced dead a short time later.
It’s alleged Duke’s Dodge Ram pickup also took out a light pole before racing from the scene.
Witnesses, however, helped lead police to the truck and its driver in a downtown parking lot.
Duke faces charges of impaired driving causing death and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.
He remains free on conditions pending his next court date on Feb. 12fth.
