The PC opposition is raising concerns about the condition of the vehicles being used by highway enforcement officers.
The party says it filed an ATIPP that revealed 74 per cent of those vehicles are at least 10 years old, with an average mileage of 300,000 kms. One vehicle is said to have nearly 500,000 kms on it.
Opposition critic for Digital Government and Service NL, Loyola O’Driscoll, says it is “unacceptable” to have staff travelling in vehicles that are “long past the age of retirement.”
O’Driscoll states that the government has made lots of announcements about fleet replacement, but they have only had two vehicles replaced, which he calls an “embarrassment.”
