Polls have now closed on the island, shutting the doors on what some are calling one of the most consequential elections in living memory.
The province is home to seven of the 343 seats in parliament, and marks the first ballot box to close across the country.
Elections Canada began counting the advance polls two hours before the regular polls closed.
The final polls will close in B. C. at 11:30 Newfoundland time.

Cape Spear Riding Awaits More Results
Liberal Tom Osborne has easily won the Riding of Cape Spear.
The former MHA under the Furey government jumped to an early lead over Corey Curtis.
St. John’s East Shows Results
In St. John’s East, incumbent Liberal Joanne Thompson is leading Conservative David Brazil with about twice the number of votes.
Avalon District Remains Unclear
Paul Connors, Liberal, and Conservative Steve Kent are locked in a close race in Avalon with Connors in the lead by about 400.
The lead was quickly tightened with Kent making up ground. The NDP’s are still behind.
Results Come for Terra – The Peninsulas
Jonathan Rowe of the Conservatives is leading Liberal Anthony Germaine in Terra Nova-The Peninsulas but it’s anybody’s race. The lead is about 500.
More results expected.
Central Newfoundland Polling Stations Close
Clifford Small, the incumbent in central, has been declared elected over Dr. Lynette Powell of the Liberals.
The Conservative was a critic for the fisheries on the federal level, and had an early lead in the election race.
Long Range Mountains Votes Being Counted 
Conservative Carol Anstey has taken the lead in the Long Range Mountains. Early voting shows a lead over former journalist Don Bradshaw and others.
Anstey, a west coast relator has been campaigning under the Pierre Poilievre opposition leader.
Labrador Votes Arrive
Philip Earle, Liberal, has been elected in Labrador. The Liberal candidate gained early leads over Conservative Ella Wallace, who is the deputy mayor of Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
