One of two men charged following a targeted shooting death in St. John’s last month has been released on bail.
Twenty-three-year-old Hussein Hussein is charged with accessory after the fact to murder, and resisting or obstructing an officer — essentially accused of helping his 19-year-old brother, Ibrahim Hussein, escape.
The younger of the two was charged with first-degree murder after 33-year-old Gerald Kyle Hynes was gunned down on Watson Street on April 8th.
The brothers were on the run for a couple of days before they were captured at the ferry terminal in Port aux Basques, with Ibrahim Hussein found hiding in the trunk of a car driven by his older brother as they waited for the boat to the mainland.

Both men, of Syrian descent, have been kept apart since their arrests, appearing in court via video from different jails.
But Hussein Hussein was physically brought to Supreme Court in St. John’s this morning for a brief hearing during which the Crown and defence consented to his release on strict conditions, including curfews and no-contact orders involving potential witnesses.
His next court date is set for May 26th while his brother is due back before a judge four days later for an update on the transfer of disclosure, or evidence in the case, from the police to the Crown to the defence.
In addition to murder, Ibrahim Hussein is charged with several gun offences and breaches of previous release orders.
He also faces pre-existing charges of assault and two counts of making death threats which will also be addressed on May 30th.
