Prime Minister Mark Carney says his government has a clear mandate and he’s focused on addressing the economic challenges Canada is facing, rather than chasing after MPs who might be interested in crossing the floor.
Carney is currently just two seats shy of a majority, with a number of judicial recounts underway, including Terra Nova-The Peninsulas.
Interim NDP Leader Don Davies told Global News that his members had been approached about joining the Liberals, but Carney says while they’re open to discussions on achieving their mandate, he’s focused on the priorities that will be set out in the Speech from the Throne later this month.
“We have a clear mandate, we’ll work towards that clear mandate,” Carney told reporters outside Rideau Hall yesterday. “We’re always interested in working with parliamentarians from any of the opposition parties to support that mandate, obviously those discussions with intensify as Parliament returns”
