A sad end to the search for an overdue boater in Bonavista Bay.
Just before 8:30 Sunday morning, Clarenville RCMP received a report from the Musgravetown Fire Department that a man who had left Broomfield in a small, non-motorized boat the night before did not return.
It was windy in the area at the time.
The Canadian Coast Guard and Triple Bay Eagles Ground Search and Rescue were contacted for assistance.
As resources were being deployed, the man’s boat was located by people on a shoreline in Brooklyn, and the man, who was not wearing a life jacket, was located deceased a short distance away.
With more people taking to the water the summer, RCMP are urging people to check weather conditions before leaving, make sure they have all necessary equipment, and to share their plans with family and friends.
