A grass fire in St. John’s Saturday afternoon produced a lot of smoke, but St. John’s Regional made quick work of it before it could do any damage.
The fire broke out behind Power’s Salvage on Ropewalk Lane just before 2pm but firefighters were on the scene within minutes.
A passerby in a nearby field saw the smoke, and alerted the workers in the store. The smoke also spewed over Sobeys and the NLC outlet.
There was no damage to the Power’s Salvage building.
Acting Captain Tony Kieley says any kind of fire in hot, dry conditions like this is a concern.
