The province’s labour movement is calling on all three political parties to present comprehensive plans that put workers and communities first.
The President of the NL Federation of Labour, Jessica McCormick, says workers need to see concrete commitments from every party “that puts good jobs, strong public services, and economic justice at the centre of their respective platforms.”
McCormick says while the hydro deal with Quebec may be the solution to our long-term financial well-being, people are trying to stretch their paycheques to meet their needs today.
She says top on the list of priorities for most voters is; ‘how do we make ends meet?’
Among the key priorities according to the federation are stronger labour laws, workplace health and safety, protecting public services, economic justice and pay equity, a worker-led workforce strategy, community benefits from major projects, universal childcare, affordable housing, and a just transition to a green economy.
