RCMP on the province’s west coast stopped two separate vehicles in less than 24 hours for possible drug-impaired driving in Stephenville.
An officer on patrol over the lunch hour on Thursday stopped a vehicle on Carolina Avenue with an expired registration. The 37-year-old driver, who had a child in the vehicle, showed signs of impairment, and according to police, performed poorly on a field sobriety test.
She was ticketed for driving with a child who was not in a car seat and driving an unregistered vehicle. She arrested and taken to hospital where a blood sample was collected.
Her licence was suspended and the vehicle was seized and impounded. Officers are waiting on the result of the blood text to determine if drug impaired driving charges are appropriate.
Meanwhile, on Friday morning around 9:00 RCMP stopped a vehicle on the highway near Brook Street that was driving on the shoulder of the road.
Police arrested the 53-year-old driver and a blood sample was taken at hospital. His licence was suspended and the vehicle was seized and impounded. Officers are waiting to see if drug impaired driving charges will be laid.
