Parks Canada’s moose reduction program in Terra Nova National Park is about to get underway.
Zone 1 in the park’s moose management area opens to hunting on Tuesday, October 14th and will remain open until Saturday, January 31st. Zone 2 will be closed to hunting for the entire season.
The hunt was introduced more than a decade ago to address rising moose populations in the park and to help protect the boreal forest from moose.
All park users are asked to pay attention to posted sings to understand where hunting is allowed.
Hunters must wear blaze orange safety clothing when hunting, and visitors are encouraged to do the same.
