The number of COVID cases in Newfoundland and Labrador is on the rise.
The chief medical officer of health, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald says confirmed cases of COVID have increased since August and she expects that trend to continue.
From October 5-11, there were 51 reported cases of COVID-19 in Newfoundland and Labrador, including two hospitalizations.
Fitzgerald emphasizes the importance of getting vaccinated – especially for those who are vulnerable to the effects of COVID.
“COVID certainly affects those 65 and older much more severely and three quarters of all hospitalizations were in this age group last year. If everyone who ended up hospitalized for COVID last year had been vaccinated, we could have prevented 112 of those 172 hospitalizations.”
