It’s been a whirlwind for the Brad Jacobs Rink – now competing in the Montana’s Brier in St. John’s fast on the heels of their gold medal-winning performance at the Olympics in Italy.
Brad Jacobs admits it was a quick turnaround for the team, but he’s pleased with the reception they’ve received in St. John’s.

He says winning Olympic gold came down to good preparation and communication.
“I met up with the guys a couple of times and then we went to Italy, we had staging camp in a place called Brunico for about five days where we had practice every single day, which was super beneficial. It was like living a fairy tale. It really was. We were in a dream place in the world, it was beautiful. And it was all about just training, exercising, getting ready for the games and that was, I think, a big reason why we succeeded.”
Brier brings city welcome economic boost
St. John’s Mayor Danny Breen says the Brier brings a significant economic boost to the capital city – and the entire region – at a typically slow time of the year.
Breen says the Brier amounts to about $12 million in economic activity.
“It comes at a time when restaurants and hotels are particularly challenged” says Breen. “The winter months are slow in that business, so any type of infusion is welcome to the city and also gives the city a bit of a vibe, a bit of an uplift in the dead of winter.”
