Trade was the big topic on the agenda as the Federation of Canadian Municipalities met in St. John’s this week.
About 40 board members from across the country made the trip to the capital city as part of their annual board meetings.
President Rebecca Bligh says discussions are surrounding trade diversification and how “local solutions” can be part of that.
She says the trade situation with the United States and the implications of that on an international scale are creating pressures for communities and people who live in them.
She says they are focused on how they can plan for the trade infrastructure that is required, such as roads. She argues that goods cannot move across the country without touching a municipal road, and they need make investments in that.
