A commitment carried out by the United States Coast Guard since the sinking of the Titanic 114 years ago resumes this week.
The U.S. Coast Guard has been monitoring icebergs in the North Atlantic each spring and summer as part of the International Ice Patrol.
The patrol monitors icebergs in the North Atlantic Ocean from the air and ensures that warnings are issued to ships and the maritime community.
A C-130 Hercules with approximately ten U.S. Coast Guard personnel will begin patrols from 5 Wing Goose Bay on March 11th and will continue that work periodically until the end of July.
The duration of the operation will vary depending on a variety of factors, including weather. Steps are being taken to avoid disturbing human and wildlife populations.
