One of the MHAs who represents Paradise is asking the government to do something about what he sees as “untenable” traffic slowdowns and tie-ups in getting in and out of Paradise. But the minister of transportation says they’re looking at the broader issue of traffic in the entire metro region.
Conception Bay East-Bell Island MHA Fred Hutton presented a petition in the House of Assembly yesterday asking for some solutions.
The Liberal government, of which he was a part, planned to build a new hospital at nearby Kenmount Crossing which would have included an expansion of the access points for Paradise at the Outer Ring Road.
“Everybody there thought it was a great plan to increase access points in the area of Paradise Road,” said MHA Hutton. “Even people in Portugal Cove-St. Phillips noticed that people in Paradise were going through Thorburn Road to escape the traffic.”
Transportation Minister Barry Petten (VOCM News)
Minister Barry Petten told him that you don’t need a new $10-billion hospital and a new water tower just to get a road built.
He says traffic in the entire metro region – CBS, Mount Pearl, Paradise, St. John’s – is a big issue, and that’s why his government has ordered a study.
