RCMP continue to investigate an incident in Stephenville a couple of weekends ago in which the windows and doors were beaten out of a shoe store in Stephenville.
Police were called to Byrnes’ Shoes and Sportswear in the wee hours after a witness saw someone breaking out the storefront windows. The suspect was seen wearing dark-coloured clothing, a hat, and a face mask.
The owner, and mayor, Bob Byrnes, says they were able to open up that Monday morning with the help of family members and people in the community who pitched in.
The store, which has been in business for over 50 years, is a passion for Byrnes, who says they put a lot of money back into the community and enjoy doing so.
He says his is not the only business in the community affected by such activity, but a lot of it is drug-related, not only in Stephenville but throughout the country.
“We’re committed to staying here – we’re a resilient community.”
