It’s Good Friday, and that means many Newfoundlanders and Labradorians will be seeking out a feed of fish and chips.
Restaurants across the province are usually packed to the gills with people looking for their plate, with many places making preparations well in advance for what is one of the busiest food days of the year.
One business ready for the fish frenzy is Red Ochre Cafe in Ochre Pit Cove.
That business had to shut its doors for nearly four months last year due to the Conception Bay North wildfires. While the flames never touched the building, it did sustain smoke and other damage.
Co-owner Tracey Shute says they have received tremendous support since reopening, and staff are prepared for a very busy day today.
“It will be a long and very busy day,” says Shute, noting that they space out their orders so the kitchen isn’t overwhelmed. She says patrons are usually very understanding of the situation.
