It calls for construction of three apartment buildings with almost 50 units on Blackmarsh Road, across from the Canada Drive intersection.
Rezoning of the land has the blessing of the provincial government, but must now go before a public meeting before being approved by the city.
That meeting is set for 7 p.m. on May 6th at City Hall, and will also be available on Zoom, but could be cancelled if no submissions are received.
Area councilor Greg Noseworthy, who grew up in the neighbourhood, acknowledged concerns about the loss of trees and traffic control.
But he said ultimately the area is ideal for the development.
“It’s desperately needed to have this type of housing, it’s in a great area, it’s immediately adjacent to a new highway, near the Village Mall, where we’ve seen a couple of new grocery stores like Piper’s and No Frills come in, Waterford Valley High School is not too far away. It’s all around a great area for this and I’m excited to see it.”
