There have been more polar bear sightings as ice continues to drift southward.
Fogo Island RCMP are warning of a polar bear spotted near Island Harbour.
They’re reminding residents to keep their pets indoors or to keep a close eye on them while outside.
Meanwhile, wildlife officers are monitoring the situation following polar bear sightings in and around St. Lewis on the southeast coast of Labrador.
They warn residents never to approach a bear and if you do encounter one of the animals, take note of its behaviour.
If the bear has not seen you, back away quietly and leave the area while trying to stay downwind. Keep an eye on the animal, and never get between a bear and her cubs.
If the bear has seen or smelled you, remain calm, give the animal lots of space and a route to get away, back away but do not run, and avoid direct eye contact with the bear.
