The finance critic is very concerned with comments made by the Health Minister in a budget day interview.
Lela Evans expressed frustration with the medical transport system for residents of the north coast of Labrador on CBC Radio’s Labrador Morning show yesterday.
She went as far as to suggest that constituents experiencing delays sue her and the government, and indicated that she could not continue to serve as minister of health while people struggle to access services.
The province is budgeting $19 million to allow for 100 per cent coverage of eligible medical travel costs, including $3.7 million in new funding.
Finance Critic Sarah Stoodley told VOCM Open Line with guest host Darrin Bent that raises alarms.
“She suggested that everyone sue her and that if things don’t change, she doesn’t know how she can stay in her job. And I think that’s like alarm bells going off. The minister of health is saying that on budget day to media. The minister of health and the premier are obviously on very different pages and I don’t know how they’re going to handle that, but that does not give me a lot of faith about health care, one of their core election promises, on budget day.”
