A well-known St. John’s businessman is encouraging young people to advocate for better conditions for businesses to thrive in the province.
Earlier this week Long Play Capital CEO and concert promoter John Steele accepted an induction for himself, and his late mother Catherine Steele, into the Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame.
During his induction speech, Steele stated that he “loves Newfoundland, but (he’s) exasperated by it.”
He says there’s a lot of potential in the province, but due to it’s history “we tend to be shackled by it.”
Before Confederation, Steele says business never picked people out of poverty. Joining Canada improved the quality of life through government programs, he states, but now young entrepreneurs need to advocate for better conditions.
“So let’s realize that we have many opportunities and it will take all of our talent, it will take all of our effort, it will take all of us working together to form a better business environment so this beautiful province and its people can share the loaf, not the crumbs.”
