Montreal area MP and former federal environment minister Steven Guilbeault (GEE-bow) has announced that he will resign this summer.
In a post to social media, Guilbeault says “it is time” to pursue his fight for environmental protection and climate change in a “different way.”

He will remain sitting as an MP until his departure.
Prime Minister Mark Carney thanked Guilbeault for his contributions and wished him well, indicating that “things change.”
Guilbeault’s decision does pose some difficulty for Carney, who holds a razor-thin majority in the House of Commons.
