NDP Leader Jim Dinn has written the transportation minister urging him not to proceed with plans to change school start and dismissal times.
Dinn says the minister himself had admitted that the move is being driven by an attempt to cut costs, rather than student safety or improved services.
Dinn told the minister that government is ultimately paying for its promise to eliminate the 1.6 km business policy, “…on the backs of school communities.”
The charges, which could push some school start and dismissal times ahead or back by up to one hour, are proposed to come into effect for the 2027-2028 school year.
