A citizen-based volunteer group based in the City of Mount Pearl is among those concerned after a violent incident on a local trail last week.
RNC is investigating after a woman on the Admiralty walking trail was robbed by a stranger last Friday morning. Police are still on the hunt for the person responsible.
Municipal enforcement officers have increased their presence on the city’s trail network by sending officers out on bike patrols.
President of the Citizens Crime Prevention Committee, Rosalind Pratt says their focus as residents is trying to figure out what they can do to help improve safety throughout the city.
She says they’ve launched a couple of initiatives to help trail users feel more secure.
Members of the committee began passing out whistles to walkers and joggers a couple of months ago. By blowing the whistle three times, it’s hoped that will either deter any potential trouble or signal to others that help is needed.
