The CEO of St. John’s Sports & Entertainment says the Mary Brown’s Centre is in good physical shape despite being a quarter century old.
The facility has a QMJHL team as its anchor tenants, and with the neighbouring St. John’s Convention Centre they have whittled about a million dollars away from the city subsidy.
Brent Meade says maintenance, upgrading and repairing are done on a continuous basis with their suppliers and contractors.
He told VOCM Open Line with Brian Callahan that the two facilities account for about $70-million in economic activity.
“We receive $800,000 a year from the city for capital expenditures to cover both buildings,” said Meade. “We have kept the building in very good shape. Everyone who has used the building – the Canada Games, the people from the Brier, all commented that the building did not appear to be 25 years old.”
