A man from the Southern Shore who gave police the slip after they tried to stop him on an all-terrain vehicle managed to elude them until officers spotted him in the passenger seat of a vehicle.
RCMP flashed the lights when they saw the bareheaded 45-year-old riding the ATV on Route 10 in Witless Bay Wednesday evening. He bolted at a high rate of speed but police used surveillance footage from a nearby convenience store to help identify him.
Officers from both Ferryland and Holyrood continued to patrol the area the next day and spotted the suspect at about 6:30 that evening in a car on the Southern Shore Highway.
His driver’s licence had already been suspended, but he owed $11,000 in fines. He now has several more moving violations to his credit including riding without a helmet, but he also faces a criminal charge of flight from police.
