The opposition says it’s time for government to hold NL Health Services to account for health care delivery in the province.
Health Critic Lisa Dempster was responding to the appointment of Joedy Wall as minister of a stand-alone health care department.
Dempster says in her district alone there were multiple clinics down nurses at the same time in recent months. That, she says, is something she’s never seen before.
She says the current government campaigned on a platform of better health care, yet the situation appears to be worsening.
“It’s time for the government to start holding NLHS accountable for some of their measures…but at the end of the day, ultimately it falls to Health and Community Services, and to the premier who promised better health care ‘for all of us.’ I tell you, we’re not seeing it yet, and we haven’t even held our own since October. It’s just been a continual downward spiral and that really concerns me.”
