Many people seem to be supporting Prime Minister Mark Carney’s decision to step away from what he called a “bad deal” with the United States over the weekend, but not everyone agrees with the decision.
VOCM News recently took to the streets see how people feel about the development, with many people supporting Carney’s decision.
One person, who works in the Canadian oil and gas industry, said he thinks it was good of PM Carney to walk away, and it was in the best interest of Canada.
“Obviously America has a lot to offer, but I think Canada has even more to offer.” He said, referring to some of Canada’s “critical minerals.”
“What Canada has, is what America needs. And it’s not only what America needs, but what the world needs.”
While most people had a positive view of Prime Minister Carney’s decision to step away from the negotiating table, one person thought Canada didn’t really have many “bargaining chips” of their own.
“Us, being the ‘little brother’ to that specific nation is tough, so we don’t really have much wiggle-room in terms of negotiations.”
He says, Canada saying they’re going to “be tough on the U.S.” has not really been working so far.
He does think that if Canada started using their own resources they might have a bargaining chip, but he doesn’t believe that is the case right now.
