There’s a proposal before St. John’s City Council to convert a former commercial retail operation to an indoor place of amusement. However, a lack of parking may be its undoing.
Previously Loved Clothes and Things closed down in May, but a new operator has applied to transform the building into an indoor playground, adventure park, and recreation facility.
Ninety parking spaces are required, but the commercial site has only 60, and six of those are assigned to another tenant. The applicant has asked for parking relief based on the site being easily accessible by Metrobus, and that traffic would be spread out throughout the day.
The indoor park would operate noon-8pm Mon-Fri and 10:00am-8pm on weekends and holidays.
The proponents aim to have a minimum capacity of 250 people at one time.
The planning and development committee is recommending that council reject the application based on insufficient parking.
The item is on the agenda for today’s regular public meeting.
