The NunatuKavut Community Council says the Churchill River development cannot proceed without the NCC and it commends Keith Russell’s decision to leave the PC caucus over his concerns.
President Todd Russell says NCC is warning government “not to go down the path of proceeding with Churchill River developments” without the “engagement and consent” of the NCC.
Russell applauds what he calls Keith Russell’s “bold” decision to cross the floor and sit as an independent, and doing so puts “the people of Labrador before party politics and a bad deal.”
The federal government recently terminated NCC’s Recognition of Indigenous Rights and Self-Determination table – a move that was applauded by the Nunatsiavut Government.
