The federal fisheries minister says her government is contributing less to the Atlantic Fisheries Fund to align with other federal projects, and less than it promised in the most recent election.
The 2017 iteration pegged nearly $400 million over nine years, while the version announced earlier this week earmarks $300 million over five years.
The change means Ottawa would be pitching in roughly $36 million per year compared to $30 million, far less than the 20 percent increase promised.
Joanne Thompson says the latest funding is a 60-40 split, instead of a 70-30 split, to follow the same formula used for other projects.
She says the funding arrangement speaks to the partnership between the provinces and the federal government.
