The Mayor of Wabana says he’s concerned for public safety after Bell Island has gone 13 days without gas or diesel.
The station’s new owners have been negotiating with its supplier, and the government has reportedly stepped in to help solve the issue.
The site’s owners declined to comment when asked by VOCM News.
Phillip Tobin says he’s hopeful the government can help resolve the issue sooner rather than later.
“It is an essential service for our community. And right now, for the past 12 days with no fuel available, it is becoming a safety concern,” he told VOCM News.
“We’re hoping now the government officials will step in and resolve this issue before it gets any worse.”
