The president of the province’s largest public sector union is responding to the “rosy” picture government is painting of the health care system.
NAPE President Jerry Earle says government claims it’s delivering on its promise of better health care, but he says that doesn’t reflect what workers are facing.
He offered the scenario currently facing members at the Carbonear General Hospital as an example.
Reading from an email he’s received, he says employees of the Carbonear lab are “worried about the health and safety of our staff and our patients. They are supposed to have between eleven and twelve positions, they currently have five trying to cover off three shifts.”
He says that’s in stark contrast to recent government announcements, including plans for a new MRI for central and a promised health care clinic in CBS when the urgent care clinic in the capital city’s west end sits empty.
