The local Ukrainian community is celebrating the passage of Bill S-210 in the House of Commons that formally recognizes each September as Ukrainian Heritage Month in Canada.
It was in September of 1891 that the first Ukrainian settlers arrived in Canada – primarily in the prairie provinces where their descendants still live today.
Since then, the country has seen a huge influx of Ukrainians – their numbers growing steadily since the Russian invasion in February of 2022.
Thousands from that country now call Newfoundland and Labrador home.
