“There’s no smoking gun here,”
That was Deputy Premier Barry Petten’s response to questions about the departure of lawyer Bern Coffey from his advisory role to the Churchill Falls review committee.
Opposition Leader John Hogan says Coffey terminated his contract the day before debate on the renewed Churchill Falls deal in the House of Assembly.
Deputy Premier Petten says Coffey did the job that was asked of him, and moved on.
“He was hired…the negotiating committee wanted his expertise, they brought him in, they got his expertise…a very respected man and I’d never want to tarnish his image because I’ve got a lot of respect for the man. But he’s done his job and he’s moved on….end of story.”
