The state of the province’s health care system was raised on the first day of the fall session of the House of Assembly.
Opposition health critic Lisa Dempster raised questions about recent comments from NAPE President Jerry Earle who questioned the rosy picture painted by the premier during his recent State of the Province address.
“Why is the government celebrating its health care announcements when front line workers are warning the system is struggling to deliver even the basic services and things have actually gotten worse over the last year?” asked Dempster.
Minister Joedy Wall says government has been working with NLHS “and there’s been great improvements made.” He cited as an example the 269 vacancies remaining in nursing in July compared to the 695 last October.
He says NLHS has recruited “over 1,200 new registered nurses for this province…Mr. Speaker, we are doing our part.”
