The province’s health authority says a new patient communication program has successfully increased capacity within its breast screening program.
The system, known as Carrick, formerly TxtSquad, sends automated text reminders to patients about their upcoming appointments.
Officials say the texts have resulted in a 67 per cent reduction in missed appointments, which has ultimately increased capacity within the system by about 10 per cent.
Greg Doyle, the provincial manager of the breast screening program, says the text messaging system has created a much more streamlined booking process and is key to the program’s overall success.
Since 2025, roughly 30,000 patients have received an automated text reminder through the program.
