The lay of the land at the Corner Brook Civic Centre is going to look a little different even after the strike ends, whenever that may be.
The workers, represented by CUPE, have been locked out by the city, leading to the suspension of most activities including hockey and figure skating.
But when the facility reopens, it will be without its anchor tenant – the Corner Brook Royals.
The Royals announced Friday that they are not going to ice a team in the Central West Senior Hockey League as it cannot do so without a source of revenue. They have sponsors, but the team says that alone cannot meet the financial reality of icing a senior hockey team in that circuit.
That leaves the league with three teams just days away from opening night – Stephenville Lightning, Grand Falls Cataracts and Deer Lake Red Wings.
