The province has announced $75,000 for the first phase of a Community Respect initiative aimed at helping to foster respectful governance in the province’s municipalities.
The program will build what government calls a “clearer understanding” of harassment, discrimination, intimidation and personal attacks facing municipal leaders, staff and community members.
Phase One will gather data, hear from participants and “lay the foundation” for long-term action.
It will also help to identify practical tools to strengthen respectful interaction and participation in local government.
The initiative is being implemented over the next three years, with the second and third phases coming next year and the year after.
