The Central West Senior Hockey League has taken a hit, but promises to treat fans to some very good hockey this season.
The Corner Brook Royals, hurting with the loss of the Civic Centre due to a labour dispute, are sitting this one out but league president Andrew Parsons is confident that the three remaining teams will ice a good product.
Parsons, who’s more used to sparring in the House of Assembly, is now heading up the senior league post-politics.
Play begins at the Hodder Memorial Complex in Deer Lake Friday night with the Stephenville Lightning in town. Grand Falls Cataracts will host Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.
Parsons says the Royals kept the rest of the league apprised of where things stood so that when they did pull out, nobody was taken by surprise.
“Everyone was talking, and the other teams are ready to go. I think we’re still going to see some great hockey,” says Parsons.
The Red Wings are the reigning Herder champs.
