Memorial University has released a preliminary report on its review of faculty and school structure, identifying possible ways to cut spending and consolidate services.
A working group led by Provost and vice-president academic at Memorial, Dr. Jennifer Lokash, was established in June to conduct the review.
She admits it wasn’t an easy topic to broach with the university community.
Lokash says they’re looking at a variety of ways to restructure the university’s academic units.
Among them is a way of breaking down what she calls structural silos.
Lokash says the report is not final, and was released in the midst of a process that started over the summer.
She says the report shows the work they’ve done to-date and makes some recommendations on what to do next. “This is really a mid-point…in a process that’s going to take some time.”
