Upwards of $9-million in joint funding is being spent on a new mining engineering program at Memorial University.
Vale Base Metals is providing $3.9 million for the program, along with future co-operative work placements. MUN is providing $2.8 million of in-kind support, while the provincial government is contributing the remaining $2.25 million through the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Labour Market Development Agreement.
The funding will help Memorial University recruit faculty and students and develop the curriculum.
The new program is expected to welcome its first students’ next fall.
