More than 600 delegates are gathering in St. John’s this week for the 58th National Congress on Housing and Homelessness.
Executive Director of the Canadian Housing and Renewal Association Ray Sullivan says people who work in the community housing sector are attending the conference to learn from each other, and to bring ideas back to their home communities about how to help solve what he calls a “housing crisis.”
Sullivan says the federal government’s pending renewal of the national housing strategy and how that will work in communities across the nation, is another topic of interest.
He says Ottawa is having conversations with the provinces and territories about that strategy and they need to “put money up front, and commit” to more over the next 10 years.
The event is taking place at the St. John’s Convention Centre and wraps up tomorrow.
